About Me

My name is Asami. I am a passionate art educator, museum professional, and researcher dedicated to transforming the ways we experience and talk about art, culture, y la historia. With certification in EC–12 art education and art museum education, as well as years of experience working in both los salones de clase y los museos, I bring a commitment to equity, creativity, and community to everything I do.

I’m currently pursuing my doctoral research in bilingual and bicultural education. Using arts-based and relational methodologies grounded en amor, empathia, and accountability, I research the integration of multilingualism in museums. I believe museums should be spaces of connection, not exclusion—places en donde todos sentimos que pertenecemos.

Yo creo en la justicia social. I believe that museums, education, and museum education have the potential to create systemic change and challenge systemic inequities- if we let them. My secondary research interests include anti-ableism in museums, art and art museums as healing practices, and decolonial art education.

I identify as a orgullosa Disabled mexicana. My lived experiencias y privilegios shape the lens through which I interpret and communicate ideas. These factors inevitably influence my creations, what I notice, what I center, and what I may unintentionally overlook. I commit to creating with critical self-awareness, openness to feedback, and a continued effort to challenge my own biases.

Currently, I am the Predoctoral Research Fellow in Museum Studies at the National Women’s History Museum, a Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, and a board member for the Museum Education Roundtable.

I am grateful for all the educators in my life who are brought me to where I am today. I fly because of my wings molded by my family, Dr. Laura Evans, Jessica Fuentes, Mr. Steed, Mrs. Eckler, y muchos más.

Gracias por estar aquí—I hope you’ll explore, question, and connect.

Con amor,

Asami
